Site Teaching Modules are designed (as we can manage) to provide study notes and alternative methods of measuring learning. Although we have put them into separate areas of our discipline as we prepare them for our classes, they often overlap and may be used in several courses. Thus the module on measures of learning, although listed under the Communication modules may also be used in theory and feminism, etc.

In the Communications model, measures of learning relates to the appropriateness of fit of the measure to the student's style of learning, to consistent patterns discernible in that learning, and to maintenance of a solid interpersonal interactions between student and teacher. In art, measures of learning relates also to the way in which the art work itself serves as a measure of learning, and the extent to which verbal and/or written discussions form a part of the same text. In plain English, you need to talk to the teacher enough about your artwork that he/she can ascertain that you are both on the same wavelength of understanding about what the artwork meant to you, and to your learning.

We try to provide enough information on all discussion questions that you have a clue as to what we were thinking when we asked the question. Given time, we will add links to conceptual links that adequately explain the concepts, in case you have forgotten some details.As far as we are concerned there is no such thing as a right answer. You'll see that clearly enough in our True/False self tests. Almost always the answer could be "That's true, depending on your perspective and/or the context." That's why you need 25 words or so to explain why it's true or false or not true.
