    On the virtual prison tours

i just took the virtual tour of the Florida and Georgia prisons and it was very intersting. I could never live in an enclosed space like that, especially for many years. It's crazy to think that millions of people live like that.

kyla -- do you consider this "inhumane" or "cruel and unusual punishment?" why.

    On race and IQ tests

I thought the IQ test we took on Friday was interesting. At first I didn't know what the point of it was. However, after we were finsihed I realized it was a representation of standardized tests and how they do not always show an accurate account of an individuals intelligence. I thought it was a good example that we could relate to.

mona -- doesn't it make you wonder about the validity of tests and testing?

    On Friday's class discussion

i just wanted to yet again send my reaction to todays discussion. one student mentioned while talking about musical chairs round number two that without the eladership role we all just kinda looked around wondering what to do,waiting for someone to take charge. i just wonder that if without leadership would more people be more outspoken or more encouraged to say their opinion. granted there would be chaos without leadership but what if? also it was discusses that competition is just part of human nature but in a way i think that maybe alot of the times competition is unconscious.you dont think about winning all the time or beating someone or something sometimes whatever it is that you are doing is just to get it done for yourself and your goals. i didnt enter college thinking i am going to compete against every student here. we are all here for the same reason. to get an education....

sarah -- you cover a lot of points here. let me see if i can remember to respond to them. first of all, when we're not conscious of doing something that is called "out of awareness" which can be rather scary if we're not aware of our actions. next, would there be chaos if in a cooperative situation there weren't necessarily leaders designated? look at what happened with musical chairs #2. there wasn't chaos. the task at hand got done. and finally, if we're here at UWP to get an education, then wouldn't it make more sense to help each out rather than competing against each other?
